Prepare a Checklist Before the Viewing Starts
Without a checklist, it's surprisingly easy to forget important questions during a virtual tour. Preparing one beforehand helps ensure you gather all the information needed to compare different properties later.
Your checklist might include:
- The actual size of the bedroom.
- Natural lighting during the day.
- Condition of walls, flooring, and ceilings.
- Furniture and appliances included in the rental.
- Bathroom cleanliness and water pressure.
- Kitchen facilities and shared spaces.
- Internet availability and mobile signal strength.
- Security features such as digital locks or access systems.
Taking notes while the viewing is in progress will make it much easier to remember each property's strengths and weaknesses after you've completed several viewings.
A successful virtual viewing is less about asking more questions and more about asking the right ones before making a rental decision.
Look Beyond the Room Itself
A comfortable bedroom is only part of the living experience. Shared facilities and the surrounding neighborhood often have a greater impact on daily life than many first-time renters expect.
Ask the host to briefly show common areas such as the kitchen, laundry space, corridors, and entrances. If the property is located within a condominium, request a look at amenities like the lobby, gym, or swimming pool if they are included.
It's also worthwhile to ask about nearby MRT stations, bus stops, supermarkets, food options, and convenience stores. These factors influence commuting time and everyday convenience long after you've moved in.
